Theological Frame: Imago Dei and Creation Design
The Bible begins with identity, not behavior. We are Imago Dei—made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). From the beginning, God’s pattern for covenant union is male and female (Genesis 2:24).
When Jesus is asked about marriage, He doesn’t appeal to culture or Rome’s law; He returns to creation (Matthew 19:4–6). Paul does the same—calling the church not to contempt or cruelty, but to holy ordering of desires (Romans 1; 1 Corinthians 6).
This means:
- Our deepest identity is not our attractions, our history, or our screen name—it is being God’s image-bearer.
- Kingdom relationships reflect God’s design: male and female in covenant faithfulness.
- Every follower of Jesus (straight, same-sex attracted, single, widowed, divorced) is called to chastity outside marriage and faithfulness within marriage.
This vision is not a “no” to love; it is a bigger yes—to a love that is holy, self-giving, and aligned with the Creator’s design.
