His Sinlessness
The sinlessness of Christ sets Him apart from every prophet, priest, and king before Him.
“He committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth.” — 1 Peter 2:22 (NASB)
His sinlessness was essential for His atoning work. A sinful Savior could not redeem sinners.
Cottrell remarks: “Only one who knew no sin could become sin for us and still break sin’s curse.”
“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NASB)
His Relationship with the Father
Jesus was both one with and submissive to the Father — a model of unity and humility.
“My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me.” — John 4:34 (NASB)
“I and the Father are one.” — John 10:30 (NASB)
His equality with the Father (John 5:18) coexisted with His voluntary submission (Philippians 2:6–8).
This harmony of purpose reflects divine fellowship — love expressed in obedience.
Erickson notes: “The relationship between Father and Son provides the model for redeemed human relationships — authority with affection, submission with dignity.”
