The Fear of the Leaders
While the disciples grieve… the leaders act.
“Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise’” (Matthew 27:63).
They remember what the disciples have forgotten.
So they go to Pilate.
They request security.
“Command that the tomb be made secure until the third day…” (Matthew 27:64)
A stone was not enough.
Now there will be:
- A seal
- Guards
- Authority
Because they are determined to ensure that this story ends.
The Irony of Control
“So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard” (Matthew 27:66).
Everything is locked down.
Everything is controlled.
Everything appears final.
And yet…
They are guarding a grave that cannot hold its occupant.
