When Power Condemns Truth: The Trials of the King

Jesus does not fight. “Like a lamb led to the slaughter… He opened not His mouth” (Isaiah 53:7). No defense. No retaliation. No escape.

Friday of Passion Week – Night to Morning (Matthew 26:57–27:26; John 18–19)

The night does not end in rest.

    It fractures.

From the quiet anguish of Gethsemane, where Jesus surrendered His will to the Father, the scene shifts violently. Torches cut through the darkness. Soldiers arrive. Judas steps forward.

    And with a kiss…
    the arrest begins.

    The Trial Before Religion

Jesus is first taken to the high priest.

“And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled” (Matthew 26:57).

This is not a search for truth.

It is a confirmation of a decision already made.

False witnesses are brought. Accusations are twisted. Testimony contradicts itself. But nothing holds—until the question becomes direct:

“Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” (Matthew 26:63)

    Jesus answers:

    “It is as you said.”

    And that is enough.

“He has spoken blasphemy!” (Matthew 26:65)

The verdict is declared before the trial is complete.

    Religion has reached its conclusion:

    Truth is a threat.
