What the New Testament Writers Want Modern Believers to Understand About the Future
THE WAY
“Walking in Truth • Walking Together”
When many people hear the word eschatology, they immediately think of prophecy charts, timelines, world events, and debates about the end times. While those topics certainly belong to the discussion, the New Testament writers had something much more practical in mind.
For them, eschatology was never merely about predicting the future.
It was about transforming the present.
From Matthew to Revelation, the writers of the New Testament repeatedly point believers toward one central truth: history is moving toward the return of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Himself taught His disciples to live watchfully because they did not know the day or hour of His return (Matthew 24:42). His goal was not to create anxiety but readiness. The expectation of His coming was meant to produce faithfulness, perseverance, and hope.
The Apostle Paul built upon that foundation. Writing to churches facing hardship and uncertainty, Paul consistently connected future hope with present living. Because believers will one day be raised with Christ, they should remain steadfast. Because Christ will return, they should pursue holiness. Because God’s Kingdom is coming, they should not lose heart when facing suffering or injustice.
