CHRIST AS THE FINAL HIGH PRIEST
The priesthood of believers is only possible because of Jesus.
“We have a great high priest… Jesus the Son of God.” — Hebrews 4:14
Jesus fulfills and replaces the Old Testament priesthood:
- He offers the final sacrifice (Hebrews 10:10)
- He intercedes for believers (Hebrews 7:25)
- He opens permanent access to God
Therefore:
No human priest is required to “make” communion valid
Christ Himself is the mediator (1 Timothy 2:5)
THE NATURE OF COMMUNION
When we come to Communion (The Lord’s Supper), Scripture emphasizes remembrance, participation, and proclamation, not priestly control.
“Do this in remembrance of me.” — Luke 22:19
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup…” — 1 Corinthians 11:26
Notice:
- Jesus commands disciples, not a special class of clergy
- Paul addresses the whole church, not just leaders
Communion is:
- A memorial (remembering Christ)
- A participation (sharing in His body and blood – 1 Cor. 10:16)
- A proclamation (declaring His death)
