EARLY CHURCH PRACTICE
In the early church:
“They broke bread in their homes…” — Acts 2:46
Communion was:
- Practiced in homes
- Shared among believers
- Not limited to formal temple-like settings
This suggests:
Communion was community-centered, not clergy-controlled
The focus was faith and fellowship, not ritual authority
PERSONAL COMMUNION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Paul gives an important instruction:
“Each person should examine themselves before they eat…” — 1 Corinthians 11:28
This is critical.
The responsibility for Communion lies with:
- The individual believer
- Their heart condition before God
Not with:
- A priest declaring them worthy
- A leader granting permission
