Two Kings, Two Hearts
The contrast between Saul and David begins long before Bathsheba.
Saul and David were both chosen leaders.
Both experienced God’s favor.
Both sinned.
Both were confronted.
Yet their responses were dramatically different.
When Saul was confronted by Samuel after disobeying God, he immediately began offering explanations. He blamed circumstances. He blamed the people. He minimized his actions. Even while confessing, he seemed more concerned about preserving his reputation than restoring his relationship with God (1 Samuel 15:24-30).
David’s response would eventually be very different.
Neither man was perfect.
Neither man escaped temptation.
But one continually resisted God’s correction while the other ultimately surrendered to it.
This is one reason David’s story continues to speak to fallen leaders today.
The defining issue is not whether a leader has failed.
The defining issue is what happens after failure.
