The Weariness of the Old Life
Many people assume sin offers freedom.
Peter suggests the opposite.
The old life promises satisfaction but often leaves people exhausted.
How many adults spend years pursuing things they believed would make them happy only to discover they remain empty?
Some chase approval.
Others chase pleasure.
Others chase success.
Others chase relationships that continually wound them.
Others spend years numbing pain through alcohol, unhealthy habits, bitterness, anger, or endless distractions.
The world keeps offering the same message: “If you just have a little more, you will finally be satisfied.”
Yet the human heart was never designed to find its ultimate fulfillment in temporary things.
Peter’s words remind us that there comes a point when we must honestly admit:
Enough.
Enough living for ourselves.
Enough carrying old wounds.
Enough allowing culture to define our values.
Enough returning to habits Christ died to free us from.
Enough allowing our past to determine our future.
The old life has had enough control.
