Why Change Feels So Difficult
One of Peter’s most insightful observations comes in verse 4:
“In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you.”
Peter knew that when believers begin living differently, some people become uncomfortable.
The world often applauds change when it moves toward its values.
It becomes confused when change moves toward Christ.
Perhaps you have experienced this.
You stop participating in certain conversations.
You become more careful with your choices.
You begin prioritizing worship, prayer, family, integrity, and spiritual growth.
Suddenly people notice.
Sometimes they question you.
Sometimes they mock you.
Sometimes they accuse you of becoming judgmental or self-righteous.
Peter reminds believers that such reactions should not surprise them.
A transformed life naturally exposes the contrast between different ways of living.
The goal is not to condemn others.
The goal is to faithfully follow Christ.
